Gateway Adds Programs at Two Schools
The Gateway Institute for Pre-College Education is pleased to announce the opening of new programs at Enterprise, Business and Technology High School (EBT) in Brooklyn and Francis Lewis High School in Queens.
During the summer, nearly all of the 65 incoming freshman at EBT attended Gateway’s summer intensive program. The six-week curriculum provided six hours of instruction, five days a week. Topics included an introduction to Gateway, effective use of technology in and out of the classroom, and the importance of summer placements and internships. Students who submitted an interdisciplinary portfolio received 3 high school credits.
At Francis Lewis, 50 freshman have enrolled in the Gateway program. One of the features of this new program is a 9th grade unit in English and social studies that will incorporate a research paper. With its experience in developing cross-curricular research projects in literacy and science, Gateway sees this as a model for incorporating research projects throughout the high school curriculum.
